March 20, 2025, Washington, D.C. – Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) spent the day in Philadelphia with constituents and local leaders to hear updates on economic development projects and learn more about issues important to the region.

Philadelphia Gas Works

First, Senator McCormick met with Seth Shapiro, President and CEO of Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), to learn more about PGW’s proposed projects to boost liquid natural gas (LNG) exports through the Port of Philadelphia. Senator McCormick has been vocal about his interest in unleashing Pennsylvania’s energy potential and streamlining permitting for production and LNG exporting.

“Pennsylvania has a unique opportunity to lead the nation in energy exporting through the Port of Philadelphia,” said Senator McCormick. “Expanding the Port’s LNG export capacity would bolster national security, increase America’s energy independence, create good paying jobs for Philadelphians, and grow our Commonwealth’s economy to the benefit of all residents. I’m excited about the potential at the port and look forward to partnering with Philadelphia Gas Works to send Pennsylvania natural gas all around the world.”

Penn American Energy & Pennsylvania Building Trades

Senator McCormick then met with leaders from Keystone LNG – Franc James, CEO of Penn American Energy Holdings (PAEH), and Vance Shaw, Finance Lead for Keystone LNG under PAEH; Rob Bair, President of Pennsylvania Building Trades; PA State Senator John Kane (D-9); and PA State Representatives Martina White (R-170) and Dave Delloso (D-162). The group discussed an ongoing $7 billion project to build a new LNG export terminal along the Delaware River in Eddystone, providing Senator McCormick with a status update on the project and an overview of existing barriers.

“This massive, proposed project in southeastern Pennsylvania has the potential to generate billions in economic impact over the next 20 years, create 3,000 good-paying jobs, and produce $30-$40 million per year in tax revenue for this community,” said Senator McCormick. “The Biden Administration foolishly placed an indefinite pause on this and other critical projects, halting our progress towards energy independence, lower emissions, and significant economic growth. I’m grateful to President Trump for immediately reversing this ban, allowing proposals like this new LNG export terminal to resume and unleashing Pennsylvania’s energy dominance. I look forward to working with the leaders of this proposed LNG export terminal to assess the project’s viability and potential impact.”

Villanova University

Finally, Senator McCormick ended his official visits in Philadelphia by meeting with Villanova University President, Father Peter Donohue, and Assistant Vice President, Chris Kovolski, to learn more about the university’s strategic vision and discuss federal issues impacting the institution.

“Villanova University is one of the many premier institutions in the Philadelphia area with a big economic footprint along the Main Line,” Senator McCormick said. “I look forward to working with Father Peter and his team to serve as a partner in leadership and innovation as the University continues to grow in the region.”
