March 22, 2025, Philadelphia, Pa. – Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania), a former collegiate wrestler at West Point, joined President Donald J. Trump at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia this evening for the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Senator McCormick and President Trump were also joined by Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) and Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), both of whom are also former wrestlers, and Pennsylvania Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Dan Meuser (PA-09), Scott Perry (PA-10), and John Joyce (PA-13).

“It was an honor to join President Trump tonight and watch years of hard work rewarded with excellence,” said Senator McCormick. “I’m proud of all the wrestlers who left it all on the mat showing hard work, courage, resilience, and sportsmanship, and I especially want to congratulate Coach Cael Sanderson and the Penn State Nittany Lions for bringing home their 12thnational title in the last 14 tries. Carter Starocci’s incredible victory tonight makes him the first 5-time NCAA wrestling champion ever. Coach Sanderson has built what continues to be the greatest dynasty in the history of college sports, and more importantly, has instilled lessons of character and grit in these young men that will shape the rest of their lives.”

“I’d also like to congratulate my alma mater, West Point, on a historic season that included sending seven wrestlers to NCAAs, winning the southern scuffle, and most importantly, beating Navy,” McCormick said.

In the lead up to tonight’s finals this week, Senator McCormick published an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal titled “When I Watch Wrestling, I See America.”
